MLTR’s performance in the very cold UB night was full of warmth and joy. MLTR performed in front of a giant screen that represented the imagery of the songs they were singing.

The audience consisted of die-hard fans to casual listeners like me. MLTR sang for two hours straight from their greatest hits that brought many great memories of the 90s for everyone in UB Palace. As a bonus, they also sang “Anyway You Want It,” from their just recently released album Scandinavia.

Admittedly, not everybody knew the lyrics to all of the songs sang that night, but some of the songs were all sang in unison by the whole audience and Jascha Richter – like “Take Me to Your Heart,” “Sleeping Child,” “I’m Gonna Be Around,” “Someday” and “That’s Why” – all of which were great hits in Asia.

MLTR knew exactly which songs Mongolians would know and love – and they sang them in orders which built up the emotions of the audience throughout the whole concert. “Take Me to Your Heart” was sungearlier in the beginning to give a little taste of MLTR, and it went on until the whole stadium went dark for the triumphant entrance for “I’m Gonna Be Around.” Only guitarist Mikkel Lentz and Jascha Richter came out of the darkness to screaming and crowd of Mongolians. It was the first song that made the whole audience in the stadium to stand up on their feet. It was probably the best moment throughout the whole concert.
But it was only beginning.

The whole place gradually built up – the songs and the noise of the audience. When the band sang “Someday,” Jascha jokingly said that it is the last song “on the list,” and walked off stage with the rest of the band members. Performance of “Someday” was simply amazing; the crowd was on their feet already but they were left alone in darkness. The whole crowd screamed and applauded (even me) louder and louder by the second. Then the crowd roared in excitement when they walked back on stage to sing a few more songs – ending with “That’s Why,” the most explosive song (both for MLTR and the audience) of the night.

Then the band members united on stage for a proper goodbye: “Thank you so much. Thank you all,” says Jascha. Mongolian flag had faded in on the background screen and at that moment I felt a surge of pride, and I am sure everyone else felt it, too.

Thank you for MLTR who finally had the chance to perform in Mongolia, and the organizers who made one of the most memorable nights in UB possible.
